which the censoring officer had written, 'I long for you tragically. A.T. Tappman, Chaplain, U.S. Army” (Heller 393). The chaplain has no chance, when he tries to defend himself, he is accused of lying and is found guilty simply because he was accused. Later in the novel as he is saying goodbye to Yossarian it it’s shown that the chaplain is a new man. He volunteers to remain behind and help others and become a fighter. 3. What does the hospital represent to Yossarian? How does Heller use hospital scenes to advance plot?
