I remember going to the theater last weekend to see the new horror movie, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.Although I’ve been a lover of horror movies for quite some time, I’m used to enjoying these movies from the comfort of my bed. This was the first time that I actually got to see a horror movie in the theater and somehow that made it all the more intense. It takes a lot to frighten me, but I can clearly remember jumping out of my seat after the one jump scare, adrenaline coursing through my veins. This begs the question, why exactly do we enjoy horror movies? Do we watch them purely for the thrill, or does a love of horror movies suggest something more sinister about us? In his article “Why We Crave Horror Movies”, Stephen King believes that we are all mentally insane and would act out in violence if we didn’t have horror movies to tame our inner craziness.
