Executive Summary:
Woolworths is a milestone of Australian retail industry. The organization is serving its consumers since
1924. The company offers mainly food items and some other lifestyle based items like DVD, Magazines
and so on. The organization considers buyers as their primary concern. Hence, in order to meet their
requirements and satisfy their daily needs, Woolworths offers products in lowest price. The organization
makes every member to perform according to this objective of the company. However, there are some
weaknesses and strategic issues associated with the company, such as- lack of competency, huge job
stress on the employees, lack of presence of social media and so on. In order to analyse the business level
strategy of Woolworths and its strategic issues the following article has used some theoretical
frameworks, such as- SWOT analysis and Porter’s Generic Strategy. Some recommendations have been
presented to overcome the current issues.

Introduction:
Woolworths is a renowned retail chain of Australia that offers mainly grocery products to the
consumers. It is owned and supported by Woolworths Limited. The organization has taken its first step
within the industry in 1924 (woolworths.com.au. 2019). Woolworths is considered as one of the giant
player of Australian retail sector, as it covers huge market share. Its wide range of products helps the
authority to grab the attention of the consumers significantly. In order to live a healthy and affordable
lifestyle, large number of consumers relies on the fresh vegetables, meat, fish and other grocery items of
Woolworths. 115,000 employees of different branches help the organization to fulfil its vision of serving
consumers better (
Morioka, Evans and de Carvalho 2016).
The following article has discussed about business level strategy of Woolworths. This strategy has
been discussed on the basis of two theoretical frameworks, such as- SWOT analysis and Porter’s generic
Strategy. Strategic issues of the organization have been highlighted through this article and
recommendations have been given on the basis of the issues.
Business Level Strategy:
Woolworths, being a giant player of retail industry has adopted some business level strategy to
run the organization in an appropriate manner. These strategies are designed on the basis of the vision,
mission and values of the company.
