growth portability virality Chinese American students have higher than the national average SAT scores as well as higher acceptance into elite colleges. Researchers believe that this is largely in part of the strict parenting styles that Chinese mothers hold versus the more relaxed parenting styles of western mothers. Holding more practices of an authoritarian parenting style. (Dewar,2019) Chinese parenting like many, is associated with high standards in their children not only educationally, but also mentally, and socially. With discipline being the driving force behind the success, while often not physical the discipline is often centered around shame to the family. It is not uncommon for Chinese parents to force their children to continue something instead of just letting them quit because they aren’t good at it right away.
