Introduction The objective of this weeks lab was to explore uniform circular motion as it pertains to centripetal acceleration and centrifugal force. This lab explores the idea that a body moving at a constant speed in a circular path is accelerating because the velocity is constantly changing direction. This exercise measured how the length of the radius and the speed of the object in circular motion determined the centripetal acceleration. Centripetal acceleration is expressed by the following equation: . a c = . r Since velocity was hard to find the period, T, was measured along with the radius of the circle. From this value the velocity could be found using the following equation: V = 2πr T Using Newton’s second law F = ma you can find the centripetal force from the equation: F c = 4π²mf²r After finding this value and the data was plotted, the percent difference was found using
