Changes in the 21st-century workplace: DVTI It is 2025 and many people own cars they no longer use in South Africa, except if they intentionally want to be late for work because traffic on the roads is really bad. DVTI, a software development company, seems to have employees who are always late and even absent because of traffic challenges. Much of the work that used to be done on site is given to people outside the organisation. Outsourcing has become a buzzword and a quarter of DVTI’s staff are temporary workers, who are ever dissatisfied. DVTI has been very reluctant to hire older people or people from outside South Africa due to relocation challenges. The baby boomers, with their religious loyalty to organisations, are gone and the workforce is mostly comprised of millennials.
