Thesis Statement: UIC should become a straw-free campus because plastic straws cause harmful environmental effects on our campus.INTRODUCTIONI. [Attention Getter]: Ever since 2015, the viral video of a marine biologist pulling a straw from the bleeding nostril of a sea turtle gaining more than 30 million views on Youtube, college activists have advocated inspiring conversations and legislation to ban single-use plastic straws. Inthe U.S, we use 500 million straws a day which is enough straw waste to wrap 2.5 times the circumference of the Earth (Gibbens, 2019). II. [Thesis Statement]UIC should become a straw-free campus because plastic straws cause harmful environmental effects on our campus. III. [Credibility Statement]For personal connection, I had stopped using plastic straws for such a long time. As I am a part of the UIC community, it encourages me to conduct deeper research in order to increase awareness of other UIC members. I have done a lot of research so that I am credible to present this topic.IV. [Preview]

(Need)●Second, there are various eco-friendly approaches that can help to phase out plastic straws on the UIC campus. (Satisfaction) Transition to Body: With these ideas in mind, let’s discuss deeper the first part.NEED (Problem) I. Similar to other universities and colleges, UIC is not an exception when it comes to the issue of using a massive quantity of plastic straws every day.
