Otherwise the intensity value will remain the same. Note that, in the former one, intensity value was odd at the beginning and it became even at the end. The number of pixels having different gray level values would decrease since the odd intensity values are all zero in the histogram. The contribution of each odd intensity value will be added to the left even intensity values contribution. Since the number of pixels would not change, this would cause the height some of the remaining histogram peaks to increase in general. Typically, less variability in gray level values will reduce contrast. b) If the intensity value is greater than or equal to the ( I max +1) / 2, then the ( I max +1) / 2 will be subtracted from the intensity value.
