Sydney BowlerISS 215-00104/18/19Edgewood Village - After School TutorWhen I first started volunteering at Edgewood Village, I was nervous but excited for the new opportunity at hand. I thought that it was going to be very homework oriented, and there seemed to be a strict schedule in place. At the orientation, we were given a large packet of information with many rules and directions. We were shown examples of paperwork we needed to fill out and charts for the end of the day. Everyday we were supposed to fill out a report for a single student that we worked with throughout the entire session and document how they did, butafter the first week we were no longer required to fill out the report forms, and worked with morethan one student at a time. Many of the kids had the same homework so we would do it in groups, and after the homework was done, the tutors were stationed at different activities rather than being assigned different students. We started the session by eating lunch and snacks, then would clean up and complete any homework given to them at school. After that, they were able to choose an activity of their choice, such as playing games, practicing an instrument, doing arts and crafts, or reading. Duringthe free time I was able to talk to them more about their friends and school and get to know thembetter. Once the snow melted and we were able to go outside, the students really opened up since
