Chapter 9 Reading Assignment 1. The size of an object may affect the grip of an infant because at different ages, infants tend to grasp differently. For example, at 1 month they grasp with the whole hand, while at 5 months they grasp with just their fingers. This factor influences the Halverson Prehension sequence because he proposed that the phases of grasping developments in infants from a 1 inch cube showed a transition from power to precision. From 1 month to 5 months, the baby has gained enough precision and then by 9 months they are able to anticipate what they grab. The shape of the object may affect the grip because of body scaling. The grasp of an infant depends on the object and the size. 2. Infants reach for objects better by controlling their arms. I chose this because as infants they establish random arm movements, so by learning to control their arms first, would help them reach for an object because their arms are not wailing all over the place.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
