The Steven Truscott Story June 9th, 1959 , Southwestern Ontario, Hilton In 1959, a fourteen-year-old boy, Steven Truscott was charged with the murder of his twelve- year-old classmate Lynne Harper. On a scorching evening of Tuesday, June 9th, Steven was seen giving Lynne a ride on his bicycle to highway number 8 around 7 pm. They parted ways. She did not return home which then her father reported her missing later that evening. Two days later on a Thursday, Lynne’s naked body was found by George Eiden, one of the many police officers on patrol that day. She had been strangled, raped and murdered in a nearby wooded area. Oddly her clothes were folded and piled neatly sitting right beside her. The investigation which lasted less than 2 days, and a trial which lasted less than 2 weeks resulted in Steven Truscott being charged with murder and sent on the death penalty on June 13, 1959. Steven was a prime suspect on account of him being the last person to be seen with Lynne. The police officers took Steven in for questing on a Friday night without his parents or a lawyer present. He was under constant pressure to confess. Steven was panicked, nervous and exhausted due to the fact that he was under interrogation for 7 straight hours. The investigator's theory was that rather than dropping Lynne off as Steven claimed to have done, he turned off into the bush then strangled, raped and killed Lynne at some point between 7:00 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. that evening. This theory was supported by various witnesses and forensic evidence. Most of which is now known to be false. Dr. John Penistan (the doctor who performed the autopsy on the victim), stated that Lynne had died precisely around 7:15 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. He has made this accusation after studying Lynne’s stomach contents. To this day, doctors say that it is very rare to pinpoint such an exact time of death, especially

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
