Hel is, in Norse mythology, the daughter of Loke and Angerboda and ruler of the dead. She is half blue and half human in color. She is the sister of the Midgardworm and the Fenris wolf. Hel lives in Niflheim. Everyone who dies ends up with her, however, there are ways for those who die as heroes on the battlefield, or who die as misery. They may come to Odin's Valhall or to the shrine of Gefion (Lejre). Most often, it is interpreted that everyone who dies of old age or illness falls into the shadow world of Hels. Whole has often been portrayed as different things, sometimes half human and half skeleton. Hel was the name of the realm of death or the underworld in Norse mythology, also called Helheimen.
