Poetry The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Somehow it seems foolish to label a piece of poetry, but from Eliot’s careful selection of words and minimization of language, it is worth noting that every imagery and symbolism he creates is mind-blowing. He opens the poem with a line, “Let us go then, you and I” preparing the reader for an internalized monologue kind of reading. We get the idea that the speaker is talking to another person using self-examination. For instance, the speaker’s personality is painted as miserable and pathetic “Like a patient etherized upon a table.” He focuses on the negatives “Restless nights in one-night cheap hotels.” He reflects on the emptiness of the world “And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells.” The picture we are painted here is how everything is temporary and ready to dissolve into nothing. The world is on the verge of breaking and collapsing.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
