IEEE MICROWAVE AND WIRELESS COMPONENTS LETTERS, VOL. 29, NO. 2, FEBRUARY 2019 95 Microstrip/Slotline-Coupling Substrate Integrated Waveguide Power Divider With High Output Isolation Kaijun Song , Senior Member, IEEE , Fei Xia , Yedi Zhou, Song Guo , and Yong Fan, Senior Member, IEEE Abstract —Based on the microstrip/slotline-coupling circuits, a four-way substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) power divider with high output isolation is presented. The presented power divider is constructed by using two substrate layers and three metal layers. Five microstrip lines located on the top metal layer are coupled with the SIW through three slotlines located on the middle metal layer of the SIW. Good impedance match- ing between the microstrip lines and SIW can be obtained. To improve the output isolation, three isolation resistors are used in the presented power divider. Moreover, the even- and odd- mode equivalent-circuit method is applied to the presented power divider. An X-band four-way power divider has been designed, simulated, fabricated, and measured. The measured results show areasonable agreement with the simulated ones. Index Terms —High isolation, microstrip/slotline coupling, power divider, substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). I. I NTRODUCTION S UBSTRATE integrated waveguide (SIW) has been widely developed because of its advantages such as low cost, compact size, relatively high Q , and ease of integra- tion [1]–[3]. In the past decades, several SIW power dividers/ combiners have been presented and some good performance are reported [4]–[8]. In [5], a miniaturized SIW power divider is presented and analyzed. Compact power dividers are pre- sented in SIW technology, which greatly reduces the circuit size. But, its output ports are not in the same side and isolation is not good enough. In [7], an eight-way SIW power divider is proposed. Even though good insertion loss and phase balance are obtained, its bandwidth is narrow. In this letter, a four-way SIW power divider by using microstrip/slotline-coupling circuits and multilayer substrates is presented. Three isolation resistors are used in the presented power divider to get high output isolation. All of the five microstrip ports (one input port and four output ports) are located on the same layer. The circuit realizes the simulta- neous coupling of one slot and two microstrip lines, thereby reducing the number of slots and improving the bandwidth characteristics of the circuit. The fabricated SIW power divider shows some advantages such as good impedance matching, Manuscript received October 9, 2018; accepted December 13, 2018.
