Introduction: To begin, I would like to express the amount of gratitude I feel for being part of this module. Throughout this module, I have learnt so much about myself as a human being, as well as I have also learnt so much about other people, their views and values. This has helped and shaped me in understanding what a diverse country we really do live in, and how important it is to respect others. As much as the saying goes, “Respectis earned", at the same time after conducting this module, I have come to the realisation that respect is something that should govern us all as humans. A person should never have to prove themselves in order for us to respect them. In addition, I have also come to realise how privileged we are as South Africans to be living in a country that possesses 11 official languages, which all differ from each other. As a child, I was indeed a blank page, with no understanding of the world, our languages and our cultures, yet right now, especially with the assistance of this module, I have been groomed and shaped with a body rich of knowledge and experiences. This portfolio is intended to document my skills, my understanding and my achievements throughout this module, yet also reflect a summary of my completed tasks. This portfolio is also intended to express and elaborate on a wide variety of presentations and artwork in a meaningful and comprehendible context. This portfolio therefore will look at the following: - discuss how African language is used - discuss how we celebrate African cultures - elaborate on where we originate
First Activity: My Linguistic Identity What is my background, in relation to language?
