Final SubmissionFor my health assessment project I chose the topic “To what extent does genderinfluencelength of hospital stay for MI patients”? Length of stay is defined as the length of an inpatient episode of care. This is calculated form the day of admission to the day of discharge, or in other words it is measured in multiples of a 24-hour day (Farlex, 2019). For example, patients that were admitted and discharged all on the same day have a length of stay of less than one day. A patient that was admitted and spent 3 nights in the hospital has a length of stay of 3 days. There are many different factors/reasons as to why people experience heart attacks. As of2019 heart disease is the leading cause of death among both men and women. Studies show that although heart disease used to be prevalent among men, it is now equally an issue among women. However, a significant challenge in diagnosing women is that there is a lack of recognition of symptoms. Women tend to experience mild symptoms that are often times overlooked. Whereas men present more noticeable signs over the course of their life. Risk for both genders increase as age increases. For this project I hope to dive in and explore the differences among men and women and among the different age groups as well. All of this information will provide a clear overview if gender does in fact have an effect on length of stay for MI patients. In order to determine if gender has an impact on length of stay of MI patients, we need to assess the collected data. Below is a table that assesses the data and what will be measured.
