Reflection Paper – VITAPart I – What I learned from my VITA experience:VITA was very intimidating to me from the outset of the program. I didn’t know how hard the work would be, I didn’t know what the clients would be like, and I didn’t know how willing I would be to sacrifice my Saturdays. I felt underprepared and nervous for the actual Saturday VITA sessions, but in hindsight I should not have been so nervous because the experience turned out to be great. First I’ll talk about what I learned during VITA. I did not realize that there were ample opportunities for people to qualify for various credits. VITA is a valuable service that can teach everyone (both students and clients) about how to individual taxation works. Also, I made plenty of mistakes in my first two weeks. As I prepared more and more returns, I became more aware ofthe items I was missing and I learned to be more vigilant and what questions I should be asking. Almost every client was appreciative and friendly. Most were unhappy with the amount of waiting time, but overall they were glad to be helped. Additionally, I found the Taxslayer software to be extremely user-friendly and easy to navigate, and I encountered no problems whatsoever (aside from the one day the system crashed). The most surprising thing I learned about myself was my patience. I was able to stay calm and comfortable even when waiting for a long time or when the clients were disagreeable. Having patience is a value that I will carry with me beyond my VITA experience and into my career.Next, I’ll talk about a few Saturdays that were significant for me. I consider my fourth week to be my actual first week of VITA because I was a greeter the first week I only met about 3 clients, the second week was off, and the third week was at the Santa Maria site where I only
