LIT 200 WEEK 4 DISCUSSION POST REACHING GUANTANAMO – NEW HISTORICISMAfter reading ‘Reaching Guantanamo’ I believe that this piece relates well to New Historicism because New Historicism is form of literary theory that whose objective is to recognize intellectual history through literature, and literature through its cultural context. I could also relate to this piece to Cultural Studies with its interdisciplinary research tactics, because it would serve to investigate the impact of culture in our lives. In justifying my chosen theory, New Historicism; I want to examine the cryptic language of our author in the text, the erased, missing words. Sharif used this method to prompt the reader to fill in the blanks, causing them to read deeper into the supposed meaning. The historical relevance of this work is monumental in understanding the piece. Guantanamo Prison is infamous for inhumane treatment of prisoners in the past, and possibly the present.
