NURS 6221: Managing Human ResourceDiscussion 7 Main Post – Eliza KetekuHealthy Relationships in the WorkplaceThe two leadership strategies I will implement to build a healthy relationship among staffmembers in the workplace are emotional intelligence and mutual respect. Research has shown that the emotions of a leader directly affects the work environment and the quality of the leader’srelationships (Manion, 2011). Thus, it is vital for a leader to be aware of, and be able to manage his/her emotions to foster a healthy work environment. Emotional intelligence is the ability of a person to recognize and understand their own emotions as well as the emotions of others, and to be able to use this awareness to manage their behavior and relationship with others (Bradberry &Greaves, 2009). According to Manion (2011), an emotionally intelligent leader can bring excitement, optimism, passion and an atmosphere of cooperation and trust to the job. Sadri (2012), also said that an emotionally intelligent leader motivates their team towards collective actions and provides transformational leadership. We have some staff members who can be very annoying because they complain about everything and every change that we try to implement and they try to influence others negatively. However, as an emotionally intelligent leader, I will keep an open-door policy and make myself accessible and listen to their concerns. Making the staff feel valued and respected, hardwiring positivity, appreciating and rewarding their hard workand capitalizing on their strength will let them enjoy what they do, get them engaged and promote quality and safe patient care.
