MODULE 2: LESSON 2 ASSIGNMENT Issue 2: The production of natural hGH declines with age. This makes it increasingly difficult to reduce one’s body fat as one ages. Given that obesity has reached epidemic levels in the North American population, and one of the functions of hGH in the body is to reduce cellular fat, should synthetic hGH be approved as a diet treatment for obesity? Human Growth Hormone (hGH) could be in either synthetic or natural form. Naturally, it is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland, regulating important body functions such as growth, blood pressure and reproduction. On the other hand, synthetic hGH is a hormone given by injection used to treat many different kinds of medical conditions. However, the use of synthetic hGH has been a controversial issue. Some believe that synthetic hGH can be used on all individuals depending on the needs of the individual, while others believe that hGH should only be used on people who fail to produce sufficient amounts of natural hGH for their bodies to function regularly. Currently, Health Canada’s regulations for synthetic hGH (GHR-15) on the market is that these products are only authorized for sale if the manufacturers are able to provide proof to Health Canada stating that their products are safe and effective, meaning that the effects of the products actually meet the claims made by the manufacturers. The main questions that Health Canada should investigate before making any changes to the current regulations for synthetic hGH is: 1) To what extent does synthetic hGH has an effect on human bodies?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
