A stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. For example, Hispanic men are seen to be drug dealers, rapists, and alcoholics, only because there have been many of them that have been. That does not mean all of them are, and people who do are stereotyping. Prejudice is a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. For example, homophobia, when certain people dislike a person because of who they are and whom they love. Discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
