Progress report?? What are some characteristics of the bureaucracy in contrast with other forms of social organization? Officials are organized into a system of strict jurisdictional areas (196). There is a stable chain of command. (196). Higher offices supervise lower offices while tasks are delegated to the lower offices (197). Management is conducted on the basis of rules detailed in written documents (197). The rules for the official are stable and may be communicated and learned (198). Bureaucracy is structured either according to a system of abstract rules or a tight coupling of means and ends. What the ends will be, however, are taken as given. It is in this way rational (220). There is a strict separation of office and household, and accordingly, the bureaucrat in his professional capacities and the bureaucrat as a private person (197). As the worker is separated from the means of production, the bureaucrat is separated from the means of administration (224). The "pure type of the official is appointed (200). [tie each step of the way to how this fosters the vocational orientation.] What are some aspects of the vocational bureaucrat? Overall, the official is to be oriented to acting in his capacity as a bureaucrat as an end in itself. The official is loyal to the office he holds itself, not a particular person in the office (199) (contrast with patrimonialism)

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
