ELEC 4410-lab1 Part a Dept. of ELEC, HKUST Page 1 of 4 ELEC 4410 Lab 1 - Part a: UNIX Setup and Cadence Basic Version: 2012 Fall Introduction The basics of UNIX system will be reviewed. You will be guided to set up the environment for running Cadence (a CAD tool for integrated circuit design) in PC. Login the EE workstation via PCs (in Rm3119) Step 1. The EE workstations are using Unix system . You can remotely login the EE workstations. Following the steps below to login the EE workstations via PCs (labs in Rm3119). 1.1 In the PC, run the X-Win program first, Programs X-Win32 5.x X-Win32 , then on the screen displayed click on ‘Cancel’. 1.2 Then, run the SSH Secure Shell program; Programs SSH Secure Shell Secure Shell Client ee_abc 1.3 If you login successfully, you will have the display looked like this, eesu9:ee_abc:1>setenv DISPLAY ??????:0.0 Press Enter / Space to connect In the host name field, type in which EE workstation you are going to login. e.g. You can login to 9 EE workstations , they are eesu17, eesu27 to eesu34. Type in your EE account name. Your EE account name is the same as your ITSC account name. Then click on ‘ Connect ’. It will then ask you to key in the password. If you are a new EE account user, TA will provide you the password for the first time login. Your EE account name The EE workstation in use Type in this command (case sensitive): setenv DISPLAY ??????:0.0 ”, change ‘ ?????? ’ to your PC’s name (or type in the IP address of the PC you’re usin g). Then, what is running in eesu9 is able to be displayed on your PC.
