Due to expansion in your workplace you have just been given the role of Team Leader of a newly formed department. As this department is new there have been a number of team members employed who are relatively new and they have not yet received adequate induction and part of your role is to ensure that they are brought up to date and aware of the relevant provisions of WHS act, regulations and codes of practice. 1.1 Define what is WHS Acts and regulations. Define the term CODE OF PRACTICE and how it affects your role as a Team Leader: The WHS Act and WHS Regulations provide a framework to secure the health and safety of workers and workplaces by protecting workers and other persons against harm to their health, safety and welfare through the elimination of risks arising from work, in accordance with the principle that workers and other persons should be given the highest level of protection against harm to their health, safety and welfare from hazards and risks arising from work as is reasonably practicable. The WHS Act and WHS Regulations promote continuous improvement and progressively higher standards of work health and safety. The WHS Regulations make more detailed provision for topics covered by the WHS Act. This includes providing more specific obligations and prohibitions for certain types of work. In some cases, a person can seek an exemption from requirements imposed by the WHS Regulations. The role as a supervisor, team leader or frontline manager is fundamental in supporting the WHS activities and ensuring your team works safely with appropriate strategies to manage any risks or hazards. 1.2. How you will ensure your team members are aware of their WHS responsibilities under the various regulations and code of practice? engage workers to undertake work for them, or if they direct or influence work carried out by workers may put other people at risk from the conduct of their business or undertaking manage or control the workplace or fixtures, fittings or plant at the workplace
