Weekly Assignment 1 1. Why does Ken Robinson believe Art is less valued in our education system than subjects like Math and Science? Do you agree? Ken Robinson states there is a hierarchy in terms of what subjects are deemed important, which is visible throughout the world. Math and languages are at the top, then humanities and arts, being art and music, then dance and drama. He states that schools are teaching children to be afraid of mistakes, which in turn can diminish a child’s opportunity to be creative. I completely agree with Ken Robinson, being a musician and taking music classes throughout all of grade school and some college. From my own personal experience, I was always told I should never be a musician because it wasn’t important and I would never be successful, although truthfully, I never was good at or had a passion for anything else. Unfortunately, I listened to that advice and I now find myself with an urge to be musically creative. 2. From dance to walking, running, Ken Robinson and Csikszentmihalyi talk about (in different ways) the role of the body and movement in facilitating creativity. Does bodily movement affect creativity in your experience? How so?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
