COMMUNITY HEALTH C228 V3 TASK 1 (B) Needs Assessment Demographics According to Healthcare Learning Innovations, “Sentinel City’s population is 663,862 with a median household income for Sentinel City is $49,091. Non-insured residents ranges from 0.7% to 37.5%”. With Casper Park District and Industrial Heights having the highest percentages (Sentinel City). Demographics will aid in epidemiology by allowing us to focus in on the area with the highest distribution of population and determinants of disease within that population, like health care accessibility, affordable housing, and disease trends, of the citizens in a particular area. Income and poverty levels along with the number of uninsured citizens will allow us to identify those areas that need the most assistance. Neighborhood Safety Assessment Safety Hazards – Abandoned cars on fire, poor street sanitation, garbage piling up on streets and alleys, strays and rodents running free. Graffiti on buildings, broken boarded up windows, and limited access to policeman/services. Sentinel City’s has a high rate of tobacco and alcohol use. Per Healthcare Learning Innovations, “Emergency Management Services response times range from 6.33 – 7.54 minutes and have a crime rate of 3,605.3 per 100,000” (Sentinel City). Gang-related violence reports have fluctuated over that last 5 years. Neighborhood safety assessment allows for evaluation of buildings, streets, sanitation services that could ultimately affect the health of the population. Run down, old buildings increases risk of injury to the body, as well as, increase the threat of fire, health, and sanitation hazards. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
