Bio199 Undergraduate Seminar Speaker: BONDAD, Saina Therese T. TITLE: Control of Poliomyelitis (Polio) Through the Use of Inactivated Polio Vaccine SIGNIFICANCE: In light with the re-emerging polio disease in the Philippines, it is important for people to be knowledgeable that polio can be prevented through readily available vaccines. Different types of polio vaccines have saved countless lives and ended the crippling paralyzation that sometimes came with the virus. Polio cannot be considered completely eradicated until everyone in the world is vaccinated. There are 2 types of vaccine for polio: the oral polio vaccine and the inactivated polio vaccine. The oral polio vaccine is the vaccine that is used by most countries. But since the reemerging polio disease is believed to be linked to vaccine-derived poliovirus, it is necessary to use other vaccination method. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this seminar include: 1. To discuss the role of polio vaccine on the eradication of poliomyelitis; 2. To discuss the reason for the re-emergence of polio; and 3. To determine the possible solution for the eradication of polio.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
