Karely Ramirez CDECE 53 April 11, 2017 Philosophy Statement Redo Children are like sponges; they absorb every possible piece of information that they can. Therefore, it is highly important for them to explore different ways of learning. From my eyes, children learn best through play because they are gaining knowledge without even being aware of it. When children play, they put into practice their creativity along with social and physical skills just as Lev Vygotsky explained. Vygotsky’s theory of cognitive development teaches us that when a child plays, they have a conversation with others and/or with themselves building a stronger sense of dialogue. Although children may start with solitary play, playing by themselves and not noticing what others are doing, they are focusing and learning how to keep themselves entertained. They can improve their social skills by involving in cooperative play; this means they play with other children who are interested in the same toys. Cooperative play is challenging because children should know how to share by this stage, which sometimes can be quite difficult for them. Moreover, knowing how to share helps children view things from other’s perspective rather than just their own; Jean Piaget named this “egocentrism”. Piaget was a psychologist who studied child development. He introduced egocentrism when he studied that children have a difficult time viewing things from other’s perspective.
