What are the two types of subjects you can have in psychobiological research? What are the advantages and disadvantages of those two types. Subjects can be human or nonhuman Advantages of human subjects: Follow instructions Report their subjective experiences Cheap most of the time Human brain Advantages of nonhuman subjects: Simpler brains make it more likely that brain-behavior interactions will be revealed Comparative approach - compare to other species Less ethical restrictions Disadvantages to both : just think of the opposite for the advantages (Bobby Shmurda) What is the difference between an experiment and a nonexperiment (quasiexperiment)? Sometimes, it is easiest to think about this question in terms of what makes something a true experiment. You can manipulate the independent variable in a true experiment but not in a nonexperiment. (Bobby Shmurda) What is the difference between between-subjects and within-subjects designs? Between subjects: all variables tested with two different subject groups Within-subjects: all variables tested with one subject group (Thy Vo) What is the difference between an independent and dependent variable. Be able to give an example and/or identify each. Independent variable: variable that’s changed/controlled in an experiment -ex) how many hours a student studies Dependent variable: variable being tested and measured in an experiment -ex) how well a student does on a test (Thy Vo)
