Tait (2016) argues that an individual’s ability and hard-work does not always correlate to their success, but instead the socioeconomic factors that they are subject to. However, Tait fails to recognise the equal importance of meritocracy within Australia’s schooling system. Socioeconomic factors can play a significant role in the quality of education people receive, people with higher socioeconomic status are more readily able to access more resources that people with lower status can’t. Tait (2016) states that the issue of social class within Australian’s education system isn’t being uphold and schools continue to engines the inequality reproduce society. This is evident in the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Better Education 2015. They describe that 58% of students within independent schools each state’s ‘the top 20’ in exam results whereas State schools only with 31%. Therefore, families with a higher socioeconomic status can afford better education and resources to support their children than families who come from a lower background. This resulting in a higher
