Total Points_____/20 The purpose of this class activity is to investigate balance as a motor ability by assessing the relationship between two types of static balance. The question of interest is, are these two types of static balance highly related, as predicted by the general motor ability hypothesis , or only slightly (or not) related, as predicted by the specific motor abilities hypothesis ? TEXTBOOK READING – Chapter 3 [pages 46-59] PROCEDURES 1. The lab activity involves performing two static balance tasks: A. Stork stand : Stand for as long as possible up to 60 sec on the foot of the dominant leg while placing the other foot on the inside of the supporting knee and the hands on the hips. The score is the time on balance. (record your score in Table 1) B. Bass stick stand : Place the ball of one foot the dominant leg crosswise on a stick (1” high x 1” wide). Raise the heel of the foot and raise the other foot off the floor. Stand for as long as possible. The trial ends when the heel or toes of the balance foot or the other foot touches the
