Case Study Memo #1 From: Grace Kim Section: BUAD 14727 Re: Case Memo #1: Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant Issues/Problem The Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant faced a host of problems, yet the most impactful problem it faced is low employee motivation . Managers of this company were unable to provide, or even pinpoint what exactly their employees desired at their workspace. Employees’ concern wasn’t the frequency of bonus from the Scanlon Plan but rather the consistency of it which is what truly builds employee motivation. Its workers did not feel neither extrinsic nor intrinsic motivation , due to growing instability within the company, coupled with dwindling gratification from it. Furthermore, Engstrom failed to provide positive perceived organizational support (POS) . Feeding off of the unstable and unreliable management system , the workers inevitably felt mistrust and lack of confidence towards their own company. The sudden surge in layoffs , miscommunication
