Introduction: The purpose of this lab was to identify a chemical by finding its melting point and comparing it to the melting point of an actual chemical. Then, after mixing the two together, testing the boiling point of the compound to see if the unknown chemical is identical to the actual chemical. Chemical Responsibility: There were five materials used in this lab: acetanilide, o-Toluic acid, benzoic acid, p-Toluene sulfonamide, and salicylic acid. They are all organic, flammable solids. Acetanilide, toluic acid, benzoic acid, p-toluene sulfonamide are irritants. Benzoic acid, o-Toluic acid, salicylic acid are toxic by ingestion. The leftover crystals that were created during the recrystallization process get
