However, the natives were also introduced to new things like a new market, new bacteria that turned out to be deadly, and new technology from the Europeans. 2. According to Merrell, the three overlapping stages that contribute to the Indians “new world” are the foreign bacteria that wiped out many of the natives, then the new technology that was traded or given to the natives, and lastly the natives were brought into the expansive world market. 3.
