Several companies with progressive outlook have recently created a new C-suite position like "Chief Happiness Officer". Critically evaluate such initiative. "Chief Happiness Officer" has some very understandable negative connotations attached to it, it sounds gimmicky from the get go, with many not understanding or agreeing that it belongs with the c-suite executives. To understand and value the position one must grasp and realise what it actually is and what they might do. Although the presence of a CHO in companies is not very widespread yet, its popularity is on the rise. In recent years, brands from all over the world are beginning to realize that a happy company is the way to go (Campos, 2018). Chief Happiness Officer is, in essence, a HR manager with a very specific task and belief; that happy employees are better employees and to implement this. To make the words “work” and “happiness” synonyms not an oxymoron. The founding idea of a CHO seems to be that happy workers do more and stay longer at a company, so it serves a company well to serve its employees well. The function of a CHO can range from a focus on employees’ day-to-day feelings to providing company perks, such as game nights or group outings (Messinger, 2015).
