Surname1 Name Instructor Course Institution Date Primary Source Essay Assignments Passage A (The Vote for Women) Summary and analysis President Wilson was reluctant to include women’s voting rights in the constitution despite having two daughters who were activists for women suffrage. This led to the change of strategies by some leaders of the suffrage movement, for example, Alice Paul. She had previously been involved in civil disobedience and advocated for more aggressive tactics, for instance, hunger strikes. In 1913, she organized suffragists to hold a protest at Wilson’s inauguration but to no avail. They undertook more dramatic actions which saw them arrested and Alice was imprisoned for seven months. Here, she went on a hunger strike which got the attention of press and public (Emory and Tindal, 876). Wilson finally bowed to pressure and pardoned her and the other activists. Integration of quote
