Article Title: Silver King Creek Fish Kill Begins Author: Kurt Hildebrand Date of Publication: August 29, 2013 (and then an update called Bringing the Paiute Cutthroat Trout Home, from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Service made December 6, 2017) Citation: The Record-Courier (recordcourier.com) Topic: A creek in Alpine County is poisoned in order to restore the Paiute cutthroat trout to its former territory. Who: Federal scientists from the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service hiked up to the creek to poison and monitor the water. What: Scientists are putting rotenone (fish toxicant) in the creeks. Fish such as rainbow and golden trout had to be cleared out before the Paiute could be reintroduced. It could take 3-5 years before it’s ready for the endangered Paiute. Once it’s done, its habitat will cover 9 miles and reduce the risk of extinction and interbreeding. (2017 update states that the fish was successfully reintroduced into the creek, yet a 2019 update shows that the Paiute trout is still federally-listed as a threatened species) When:
