GENERAL INTRODUCTION Difference between Primary natural products and Secondary natural Products. Use of Secondary natural products as taxonomic markers in consideration with existing morphological classification. Phytochemistry & Chemotaxonomy. Other factors to consider in systematic implication of secondary natural products. Main classes of compounds – Phenolics (mainly Flavonoids), Betalains, Anthocyanins, Non- protein amino acids, Alkaloids and Sesquiterpene Lactones.and other examples. 2. PHENOLICS Flavonoids & Anthocyanins Importance of Structural variations of Flavonoids, Biflavanoids , Iso-Flavonoids, Flavonoid O and C Glycosides - General distribution patterns. Taxonomic and Phylogenetic (evolutionary patterns) importance of all types of Flavonoids. Examples of Chemical and Geographical Races – Ecotypic variations.
