Surname 1 Student’s name: Professor’s name: Course: Date: Gun Control in the United States Gun violence in the United States has become a safety issue. When gunmen end the lives of tens and hundreds of young men and women, it affects the whole country. Deeply. The recent loss of lives in various schools and social gathering venues shook the nation to its bones. Similarly, such incidents also tend to stir the long-simmering debate on the rights of individuals to own firearms as well as on the scope of the Second Amendment. The massacre of people at Newtown, Connecticut, has led to significant changes in the United States. Nearly all organizations for gun control have been dragged or drawn into the debate on the possible legislation to ensure the safety of the American citizens. Organizations such as the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) and the National Rifle Association (NRA) are among the organizations that have always advocated for the Congress and the state legislatures to come up with effective legislations focusing on stricter gun control measures. In this sense, the study focuses on discussing why the United States needs stricter gun control legislation as a measure of keeping its citizens safe and the possible reasons why the country has not been able to achieve effective legislation. The call for strict gun control by the various advocacy groups and the increasing cases of gun violence in the United States shows how serious the issue of gun violence is in the country. It also proves how important it is for the country to find lasting solutions to gun violence and gun control problems currently affecting the nation.
