Stimuli Define: sensation: awareness of the stimuli perception: interpretation of meaning of the stimulus, occurs in the brain What are the three ways to classify a receptor? Type, body location, and structural complexity. 5. Generally define each of the listed terms: -Mechanoreceptors —respond to touch, pressure, vibration, & stretch -Thermoreceptors —sensitive to changes in temperature -Photoreceptors —respond to light energy (example: retina) -Chemoreceptors —respond to chemicals (examples: smell, taste, changes in blood chemistry) -Nociceptors —sensitive to pain-causing stimuli (examples: extreme heat or cold, excessive pressure, inflammatory chemicals) 6.
