There are many uses for a dam. Creating hydroelectricity and maintaining a water supply are the two main reasons although there are many more. Some of these other uses are flood and drought management, creating a recreational area, irrigation, mining, and debris control. 2- What type of dam is Hoover Dam? The Hoover Dam is an arch-gravity dam. They were able to use this type due to the narrow width of the canyon and the strong rock that it is made of. 3- What is it made of? The Hoover Dam is entirely constructed of concrete. 4- Where was it built? The Hoover Dam was built in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona. The dam 5- When did the construction start and end (and the duration of the construction)?
