Through her poem ‘War Photographer’, Carol Ann Duffy describes the destruction and bloodshed which results from war and how uninterested and heartless the rest of the world can be. The poem begins with a portrayal of the war photographer standing alone in his dark room. All the photos that he had taken of the war are contained in the rolls which are organized into neat rows, making him feel like a priest. He reflects of all the places he has been to, places which had been ruined by war, and recollecting all the bloodshed he has seen he feels that everything has end at the end. He then continues on with his job, but the ironic part is that he wasn’t afraid when he was taking the photos during the war but now her trembles in the security and protection of his own home in Rural England, where he does not need to worry about anything killing him or blowing up. The third stanza starts strangely, the half developed photograph is explained. The unclear features of the man seem to the photographer, like the spirit of the soldier and he remembers the moment when he took that picture. He remembers the hopeless wailing of the soldier’s wife as he had silently sought
