1. Who is Melody and how does she communicate with others? a. Melody Brooks is an almost eleven year old girl who has cerebral palsy, in which her ability to walk is hindered, but her intelligence is intact and thriving. Despite her being incredibly intelligence, she is unable to communicate so no one knows about her true abilities. Others seem to look past her potential ability and only see her for her inabilities, they tend to focus on her pink wheelchair. Both her mother and father are supportive of her, they strive to ensure that their daughter has the best care and is being treated with the utmost respect. Melody has a younger sister named Penny, a dog named Butterscotch, and a fish named Ollie. Melody goes to a public school and is contained in a classroom with other students who have disabilities. Despite being unable to walk, eat, and take care of her hygiene on her own, Melody is so intelligent that she has a photographic memory. However, no one knows about her intelligence because she is unable to talk to others. This is the greatest hardship that Melody faces. Melody wishes to speak and tell others her wants, needs, and frustrations. However, the only way Melody can communicate is by gestures, some screeches/grunts, and a communication board.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
