Additional Mathematics Project Work 2018 1 KUANTAN DISTRICT EDUCATION DEPARTMENT MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, MALAYSIA ADDITIONAL MATHEMATICS PROJECT WORK 2018 INTRODUCTION Mathematics play an important role in our daily life. Mathematics is the study about connections, patterns and it branches into different fields such as arts, entertainment, business and languages. Mathematics studies the relations between variables which represent some physical quantities in our daily life. In the year 1884, George Cantor, a German mathematician introduced an important set theory. Set is a list or group of objects which possess similar characteristics, like cars, numbers, states, etc. Each object is labelled as an element or member for that particular set. Relation shows the association of elements where the elements in a set are mapped to the element/elements in another set . In our daily life, there are many types of relationship, like parents and sons, countries and capitals, countries and currencies, consonants and vowels etc. The relationship between two sets can be represented in three ways, that is arrow diagram, ordered pairs set and graphs. Relation can be classified into four types, that is one-to-one relation, one-to-many relation, many-to-one relation and many-to-many relation. One-to-one relation and many-to-one relation are functions . Explain your understanding about functions and their usage in daily life.

With respect to that, students should be able to adapt to change, develop thinking skills, solve problems, seek information, and develop interpersonal and self-direction skills. The Additional Mathematics teachers in your school are aware of the implementation of Learning of The 21 st Century in teaching and learning processes. To prepare students to master the techniques above, your Additional Mathematics teacher decides to integrate these concepts into daily life to inspire students to explore. In a group of three or four students, you are required to carry out the exploration activities according to the steps below: (i) Identify an object that functions as an obstacle (example trees, gates or walls) in the your school compound or your house.
