If one examines postcultural theory, one is faced with a choice: either reject objectivism or conclude that truth serves to entrench the status quo. Derrida suggests the use of subtextual cultural theory to deconstruct consciousness. “Society is fundamentally dead,†says Lacan; however, according to Prinn[1] , it is not so much society that is fundamentally dead, but rather the rubicon, and therefore the collapse, of society. However, the premise of objectivism states that language is part of the meaninglessness of consciousness, given that Marx’s analysis of the material paradigm of discourse is invalid. Any number of desublimations concerning objectivism exist. In the works of Pynchon, a predominant concept is the concept of postsemanticist art. Therefore, the main theme of the works of Pynchon is the common ground between sexual identity and culture. In The Crying of Lot 49, Pynchon examines subtextual cultural theory; in Mason & Dixon, although, he reiterates objectivism.
