THE GUARD'S REWARDS STORY A long time ago, there was a king in Tibet who liked to eat fish. Once, there was a very bad drought. The rivers became dry and fish became scarcer and scarcer. The King felt very hungry as he did not like to eat any other kind of food. So, he called his ministers to see him. “Anyone who brings fish to the palace, can ask for anything he likes as a reward,” he told them. Not long afterward, a man brought some fish to the palace which he had obtained from India. He was stopped at the palace gate by the guard. “Stop! Where are you going? And what are you carrying?” asked The Guard. “I…..I…. I’ve brought some fish for the king.” The Man answered. “Fish! Where did you get it?” asked The Guard. “I brought it back from a recent visit to India.” answered The Man. “All right. Leave it with me. I shall pass it on to His Majesty.” The Guard thought that he would got a big reward from The King for this. The Guard tried to persuade The Man to leave the fish with him but the man refused.
