INTRODUCTION Our short-term and long-term health and functional capacity is determined the nutrients we consume. Different people have different purposes of dietary intake. Dietary records can be taken to analyze dietary intake for a prospective point of view. Our physical and mental well-being are mainly defined by the food and drinks we consume. A balanced diet should always be maintained to enhance healthy lives and a healthy society. A balanced diet is comprised of carbohydrates (energy giving foods), proteins (bodybuilding foods), fat, fiber, vitamin and minerals, and water. There several determinants of food choices, and these include; ecological determinants such as income, availability, and cost. Physical determinants such as skills and time. Biological determinants such as taste, appetite, and hunger. Social determinants such as peers, culture, and tradition. Psychological determinants such as mood and stress and knowledge about food, attitudes, and beliefs. According to the Australian dietary guidelines it important to achieve a healthy weight without neglecting exercises and by understanding the group one is, one will opt to feed on nutritious food and drinks that will meet the energy needs. It is also important to consume a balanced diet every day. Limitation of saturated fats added sugar and salt and alcohol is important as excessive intake may be unhealthy. It is important for mothers to breastfeed and lastly, food should be taken care of by storing it in a clean and safe place ("Australian Dietary Guidelines 2013", n.d.) NUTRITIONAL ADEQUACY Nutritional adequacy is the state of being secure nutritionally through consumption of essential nutrients and energy. The Mediterranean diet is proved to be one of the cleanest and healthy dietary patterns. The diet is a plant-based pattern comprises of fruits, vegetables, cereals, nuts, and legumes, moreover, its source of protein is from, white meat, dairy products, eggs, and shellfish. It is advisable for the diet to be consumed in high amount and frequency. The main
