Gestalt Therapy Gestalt Therapy is an existential approach base on the people premise that people must find their own way in life and accept personal responsibility if they hope to achieve maturity. The basic, initial goal is for clients to gain awareness of they are experiencing and doing. Through this awareness they gain self-understanding and the knowledge that they can change. Hence they learn that they are responsible for what they are thinking, feeling, and doing. The approach is phenomenological in its focus on the client’s perceptions of reality. The approach is existential in that it is grounded in the here and now. Summary = Gestalt therapy can be particularly appropriate for clients who lack self- awareness and feel “out of touch” with themselves. Several research studies provide some support for the efficacy of gestalt therapy. Guinan and Foulds (1970) found client to have increased self – actualization and self- concepts after gestalt therapy.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
