La taxonomía del orden dermaptera o tijeretas es: Reino: Metazoa Subreino: Eumetazoa Rama: Bilateria Grado: Coelomata Serie: Protostomia Filo: Arthropoda Subfilo: Hexapoda Clase: Insecta Subclase: Hemimetabola Orden: Dermaptera familias 1. Apachyidae: es una de las familia más pequeñas de tijeretas como únicamente dos géneros conocidos como Apachyus y Dendroiketes. 2. Chelisochidae: es una familia de dermápteros apodadas como tijeretas negras. Dentro de esta se conocen tres subfamilias conocidas como Chelisochinae, Genitalatinae y Kinesinae. Presentan generalmente colores oscuros y se localizan en zonas muy tropicales. 3. Anisolabididae: es una gran familia dentro del orden dermaptera con un total de trece subfamilias con 39 géneros diferentes. 4. Diplatyidae: es una familia dentro del orden dermaptera con solamente una subfamilia conocida como Diplatyinae y seis géneros. El fósil más antiguo que tenemos data del Cretácico.
