Apply Hofstede’s characteristics to each one, and state if the characteristic is low, medium, or high in each country. Also, explain why each country deserves that description. Characteristics Saudi Arabia Indonesia Netherlands Power Distance High The people of Saudi Arabia understand hierarchy and believe that everyone has a respective place in society. High Hierarchy is important in Indonesia. There is a distinct difference between the rich and poor. Low Power is decentralized in the Netherlands. Uncertainty Avoidance High Saudi Arabians have a rigid belief system and therefore unplanned behavior is unacceptable. Low Keeping harmony is important in Indonesia. Therefore is not uncommon for someone to be angry and not show it. Low/High The Netherlands have a desire for rules but they are not always followed. Individualism/ Collectivism Collectivism Saudi Arabians are loyal to one another as a group or extended family. Collectivism Family loyalty is of the upmost importance. Individualism Individuals are to take care of themselves and their immediate family. Masculinity/ Femininity Masculinity In Saudi Arabia, men are seen in leadership roles.
